Marieka Walsh is a Director, Screenwriter and Animator living in Dharawal Country (South Sydney).

Marieka has received five Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards (AACTA) nominations as well as two Australian Director's Guild (ADG) nominations. In 2013 her film THE HUNTER, (SXSW, Palm Springs, Sydney International Film Festival) won several international awards as well as an AACTA for Best Short Animation. In 2014 she directed and animated the opening story for the anthology feature film THE TURNING (Berlinale, MIFF) and in addition illustrated the history of sugar for a scene with Hugh Jackman on THAT SUGAR FILM. In 2016, her Screen Australia funded animation THE CROSSING (writer/ director/ animator) won 'Best Short Animation' at The Sydney Film festival.

Marieka co-directed 4 animated documentary stories for the feature AFTER THE APOLOGY by Larissa Behrendt. Of these, 'BARBARA' was nominated for a 2018 AACTA, was 'Highly Commended' in the 2018 ADG Awards, nominated for a Dendy Award in the 2018 Sydney Film Festival and another 'DONNA' screened at TEDX.

Marieka has a background in Visual Art and holds a Hons degree (SCA – USYD). Her animation/ video installations have screened at galleries in Sydney/ Melbourne including the Australian Centre for Moving Image (ACMI). Marieka started her career working in Post Production at The Editors where she was a Producer for 4 years and an Edit Assistant/ Junior Editor for a further 3 years.

Marieka has a daughter and two chickens and wishes she had a better photo of herself where she isn't smiling in such an extreme way. She enjoys collaborating on projects with meaning, intention and humanity (the broken kind included). She is currently directing a segment of the feature film The Magic Beach (Arena Media) and developing a Climate Fiction Drama Series.
